First we went to explore the South Depoe Bay Creek Nature Trail out of the Depoe Bay City Park on the south end of town. It wasn't a very long trail, only about 0.8 miles all total, but it was a fun little trail to explore. We followed the trail to do the loop of 0.4 mi there and back, and took an offshoot that went up in the woods for another 0.4 there and back trip. Afterwards we crossed the little bridge there in the park and wandered over to take a look at the little harbor and get a view of the bridge.
We were still wanting to hike more, so I suggested we wander over to Fogarty Creek, about 2 miles north, as I'd heard there was a trail over there. We went to South Fogarty Creek State Park and wandered around looking for a trailhead, and finally saw some people coming down a graveled roadway that was heading up into the forest and they said that was a place to hike up, but it's all roadway. We walked up that up to the water storage tank, maybe 1/2 mile, and then we followed the old logging road (which was gated) for a bit, and while we could have gone far wandering on those roads, the views were more of clearcuts, so we pretty quickly turned back and decided we'd stop by Agate Beach on the way back and go for a quick walk on the Ocean to Bay trail there.
We went to the Agate Beach State Recreation Site in north Newport and followed the approximately 3/4 mile trail through the wetlands on the first third of the Ocean to Bay trail, to end at Big Creek Park, and while there was another leg of the trail starting at Big Creek Park that goes into town, we decided to save that for another day, and then turned around and went back the 3/4 mile return trip.
It was a beautiful day to go out for a hike and go exploring.
